Donya speaks to Chairman Judy Sarssam from the Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper

In the interview, Chairman Judy explains the value of the Talking Newspaper to people in the community as despite advances in medical care, the number of people with visual impairments are still growing. Judy describes the history of the Talking Newspaper and the EETN and how it all began in 1973 in a corridor at Swail House.

The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper is a service for people who have difficulty reading text. It is not necessary to be registered as blind to receive the newspaper. The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper produces and distributes an audio recording frequently consisting of 3 main sections:

  • The News – taken from local newspapers
  • The Magazine – with a varied selection of articles, recipes, poems and jokes
  • The Supplement – with articles both of general interest and of special interest to the blind and partially sighted.

There is no charge for the newspaper. If you or anyone you know could benefit from this service you can find all the information including the contact details on their website: https://eetn.org.uk/about/

Information taken from the EETN website. The Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper is a registered charity and is affiliated to the Talking Newspaper Federation.
