Neil Lucas

Neil Lucas joined Epsom Hospital Radio in January 2026 and is currently one of the station’s trainees, having started his training with Heather Kane. He’s hoping to get his own show very soon.

When Neil does get his show, features he plans to include are a Star Wars-themed musical journey featuring tunes from a galaxy far, far away alongside the very best music from the 1960s right through to the present day.

Questions and Answers:

What's your favourite genre of music?
I enjoy all genres of music, but I’m a grunge fan at heart. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden are absolute favourites, although I’m equally happy listening to The Beatles, Dire Straits or Pink Floyd.

When you're not at Epsom Hospital Radio, what are you doing?
I’m usually adding something new to my Star Wars collection! I have a collector room filled with memorabilia including full-size replica helmets for Darth Vader, Stormtroopers and Boba Fett. I alsosupport Tottenham Hotspur, which can sometimes test the nerves.

If you had £1,000,000 to spend on yourself and no-one else what would you spend it on?
I’d build my own mini Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge theme park in the back garden. I’m fairly certain my wife wouldn’t approve, but every Jedi needs a dream.

What is your ideal holiday destination?
Anywhere in Italy. I love the food, scenery and relaxed pace of life.

What is your favourite film?
Star Wars: A New Hope. I’ve loved it since I was a child and probably know far too many lines by heart.

What is your favourite TV programme?
Blackadder. The writing is brilliant and it never gets old no matter how many times I watch it.

Who is your favourite comedian?
Greg Davies. His storytelling and expressions make me laugh every single time.

Who is your favourite sports team/star?
Tottenham Hotspur, with Jürgen Klinsmann being my all-time favourite player. He always played with charisma and confidence.

What is your favourite drink?
Guinness — even the zero-alcohol version is surprisingly good!

What is your favourite food?
Steak and chips. You can’t beat the classics.

What inspires you?
I’m inspired by the human spirit — especially resilience, kindness and people finding humour during difficult times.

Middle name?
I don’t actually have one!

Star sign?
Cancer.

Weird & wonderful talents?
I can do an impression of Barney the Dinosaur. I’m not entirely sure when that became useful, but it usually gets a laugh.

Most treasured belongings?
My original Star Wars soundtrack LPs which were given to me by my grandfather in the 1970s. They mean a huge amount to me.

Favourite smell?
Freshly cut grass. It instantly reminds me of summer.

What was the Number 1 single on the day you were born?
“Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me” by Slade was Number 1 when I was born. Not a bad way to enter the world considering it was the band’s fifth chart-topping single!

What record drives you mad when you hear it?
That information remains highly classified because my sons would definitely use it against me for their own entertainment.

What is your favourite album?
“The Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd. It’s one of those rare albums where every track feels timeless and the whole thing is best listened to from start to finish.

Have you met anyone famous and if so, under what circumstances?
I met Ewan McGregor, which for a lifelong Star Wars fan was a pretty unforgettable experience.

Who is your favourite radio presenter?
Tony Blackburn. He’s been entertaining listeners for decades and still sounds like he genuinely loves radio.

Apart from your current partner, who would be your ideal dinner date and why?
Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill — mainly because hearing their stories from the original Star Wars films would be incredible.

If you were marooned on a desert island, what would be the items you'd need most?
A coffee machine and a record player. One keeps me functioning and the other keeps me sane!
